OS rollovers - good or bad idea?

I had posted a short definition of LAMP on the old forum, and concluded that WAMP was faster to setup.
When you mentioned "rolling over" to a new operating system, I thought to ask whether or not that was a good idea, since Apache and PHP servers are not quick to adapt to new technologies like VISTA or HOME SERVER. Usually Apache, MySQL, PHP Server technologies are tweaked to run better on older operating system versions like Windows 98/2000/XP. I have HOME SERVER , but hesitate to install just yet. It would be good if you documented your installation process for HOME SERVER as I have yet to tread in those waters. Maybe setup a FAQs page about the ups and downs of setting up WAMP on HOME SERVER. Just a thought.
